Chaos Cottage is a home, a smallholding and a way of life.

We’re tucked away within the conservation belt of a pretty, rural British village, surrounded by countryside and with a garden that’s always a little ahead of us, an orchard that’s teaching us patience, and a collection of animals who firmly believe they run the place.

Like many others, we moved from town to country during the pandemic, drawn by the promise of space, freedom and a slower, more mindful way of living. What we discovered was something more soulful but far messier. You have to be careful what you wish for, right?

At Chaos Cottage we're learning as we go. How to live in a multi-generational household, grow vegetables and flowers (sometimes successfully, sometimes not). Making choices that are kinder to the planet, even when they’re less convenient. Living with less urgency and more intention. Embracing the reality of rural life rather than the curated version. We have mud, mistakes, missteps and all, rather than perfectly pristine floral frocks, white ducks and fluffy bunnies. We have silly spaniels, difficult octogenerians, boomerang adult kids and more. There is a reason our home is called Chaos Cottage - it fits us perfectly and literally.

Alongside our rural idyll is our love of old things. Antique and vintage furniture, art, books, and homewares — pieces that have already lived a life and are ready to live another. We believe that buying well-made, timeworn objects isn’t just about style; it’s about sustainability, craftsmanship, and resisting the disposable culture of modern living. These are items with history, character, and lasting value — pieces to live with, love, gift and pass on.

Chaos Cottage isn’t about perfection (it really couldn't be!). It’s about curiosity, care and finding beauty in things that aren’t brand new or neatly finished. It’s about creating a home — and a business — that feels honest, grounded, and human, oh and sometimes a little more spaniel (more spaniel = joyful, present and somewhat chaotic).

If you’re drawn to 'the Good Life', to old objects with stories to tell, and to the idea that a little chaos often comes with a lot of heart, you’re very welcome here.
